Abstract Introduction: Parkinson’s disease is a progressive, neurodegenerative disorder of aging that affects both motor and cognitive function. While a number of non-motor manifestations arise, the typical clinical features involve a movement disorder consisting of bradykinesia, resting tremor and rigidity with postural instability occur at later stage. This article provides a review of the current understanding of Parkinson’s disease including the epidemiology, etiology , pathophysiology and treatment options of the disease. Recent Findings: Parkinson’s disease is now recognised to be a heterogeneous condition marked by both motor and non-motor symptoms. New medications with improved ease of administration have been approved for its treatment. Innovative surgical therapies for Parkinson’s disease may be used when motor symptoms persist despite optimal medical management. Conclusion: Parkinson disease is a chronic, progressive neurologic disorders that results from the loss of the neurotransmitter dopamine in a group of brain structures that control movement.The cardinal symptoms are resting tremors, rigidity akinesia and postural instability.The goal of management is to control the manifestations such as motor and non motor symptoms with the lowest possible dose of medication in order to avoid side effects.Medication selection and dosage depend on the manifestation, age of the client and presence of other medical condition.Nursing care should focus on the health assessment medication instruction and monitoring liaison with other members of the health care team and family members and family education.
