Talk Title : Psychiatric Disorders in Brain Tumors: Neurosurgical Management

Speakers: BOUALLAG Magdouda Faculty of medicine Algiers 1, Algiers, Algeria and HABCHI Nawel University of Victoria, London, U.K Abstract: Brain tumors can be associated with high morbidity, and psychiatric symptoms may be an early manifestation. Addressing mental symptoms early is crucial as they are prone to developing psychiatric comorbidities in the future. The relationship between preexisting psychiatric diagnoses and brain tumors can be considered in two contexts: one suggests psychiatric disease may alter one's risk for developing a brain tumor through potential mediators, such as behavioral and lifestyle trends, or another suggests psychiatric disease may represent the earliest manifestation of an underlying brain tumor. This conference aims to further elucidate this association using some cases to investigate the long-term risk of intracranial tumor diagnosis for patients with and without psychiatric disease. Screening of psychiatric disorders should be routine in brain tumor patients and an integrated approach is required to treat brain tumor patients. ___

09:45 PM - 10:20 PM Talk Title : Work Place Stress

Speakers: Ms. R. Oviya BSc(N) Nursing Tutor Bhavani College of Nursing, India

Naja Thasneem & Hina Nasrin BSc Nursing First Year Bhavani College of Nursing, India  Abstract: Stress can be harmful to our health and increase mental health challenges. While there are many things in life that induce stress, work can be one of those factors. However, workplaces can also be a key place for resources, solutions, and activities designed to improve our mental health and well-being.

The symptoms of stress at work might impact your mental health, while others are more physical. While a few symptoms may go away after your stressful day ends, others have lingering effects. And chronic stress could harm your mental or cardiovascular health, leading to high blood pressure, heart disease, and more. When your brain recognizes a threat, it sends a signal to the hypothalamus. Then, stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline start to flow through your body. These hormones travel to every inch of your body, impacting each area differently. Once your body sees that the threat is gone, the hormones are supposed to reduce. But when you experience chronic stress, the hormones keep pumping even after you’re done feeling stressed. Studies have found that employees have poor productivity levels when they’re dealing with job stress due to overwhelming stress. This results in little control over focus and plummeting productivity. A stressful situation, whether environmental or psychological, can activate a cascade of stress hormones that produce physiological changes. Activating the sympathetic nervous system in this manner triggers an acute stress response called the fight-or-flight response. How to manage stress in the workplace > Managing stress in the workplace may seem like just a task for employees, but the reality is that reducing work-related stress requires a comprehensive approach that involves both employees and their employers. > Adequate staff, appropriate workload, frequent breaks, and open communication, among others. > However, sometimes it’s not feasible for someone to wait for workplace changes to alleviate their work stress. In conclusion, managing work place stress and mental health is critical for maintaining a productive and healthy work environment. Effective strategies include promoting work life balance, fostering a supportive culture, providing mental health resources and encouraging open communication. Employers should offer training on stress management, ensure fair workloads, and recognize the signs of burnout. By addressing these issues proactively, organizations can enhance employee well-being, boost morale, and improve overall productivity. Ultimately, prioritizing mental health in the workplace is not only beneficial for employs but also for the organizations success and sustainability. ___
