Abstract
Introduction
The connection between type 3diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease has emerged as a compelling area of research, shedding new light on the intricate relationship between metabolic disorders and cognitive decline. While traditionally viewed as separate entities, recent studies have uncovered striking parallel between the pathophysiology of diabetes mellites and the neuro pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease.
This concept paper aims to explore the intertwining mechanisms liking type 3 diabetes and Alzheimer’s delving into the shared bio chemical pathways neuro inflammatory processes and implications for therapeutic interventions. By elucidating the intricate interplay between metabolic dysregulation and neuro degeneration, we can pare the way of preventive and therapeutic strategies target such conditions concurrently.
Defination
Type 3 diabetes occurs when neurons in the brain become unable to respond to insulin, which is essential for basic tasks, including memory and learning.
Type 3 diabetes is a term used by some researchers to describe the theory that insulin resistance and insulin-like growth factor dysfunction in the brain may cause Alzheimer’s disease. More research needs to be done to understand the link between diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.
Causes/Risk Factors
According to a 2022 review of research, people who have T2D may be up to 45% to 90% more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease or another type of dementia, such as vascular dementia.
It showed that females with T2D had a higher probability of developing vascular dementia than males.
Symptoms
Type 3 diabetes condition may include symptoms of dementia, such as those seen in Alzheimer’s disease. The symptoms of the proposed type 3 diabetes condition may include symptoms of dementia, such as those seen in early Alzheimer’s disease. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, these symptoms can include:
Memory loss that effect daily living and social interaction
Difficulty completing familiar tasks
Sudden changing personality
Misplacing things often
Decreased ability to make judgments based on information
Diagnosis of Type 3 Diabetes
There’s no specific test for type 3 diabetes, as it is not an official diagnosis. Alzheimer’s disease is diagnosed based on the
Neurological examination
Medical history
Neurophysiological testing
Imaging studies, such as MRI and CT scans of the head, may give a doctor a picture of how the brain is working
Cerebrospinal fluid testing can also look for indicators of Alzheimer’s
Fasting blood sugar test and a hemoglobin A1c test
Treatment
Currently there is no specific treatment for type 3 diabetes or Alzheimer’s disease for type 3 diabetes managing insulin resistance through lifestyle changes like diet and exercise may help improve symptoms and slowing its progression. This may include medication to manage cognitive symptoms and behavioral change as well as life style intervention like regular exercise social engagement and cognitive stimulation. Research into potential therapy for both conditions is ongoing at there is no still definitive cure.
There is separate treatment option for
T2D
Prediabetes
Alzheimer’s disease
Lifestyle Modification Measures
Managing weight: Doctors may recommend weight loss for some people with diabetes. If you are overweight, a doctor may recommend methods to help you lose around 7%Trusted Source of your body mass. This can help stop organ damage caused by high blood sugar and may prevent the progression of prediabetes to T2D.
Balancing diet: A diet low in fat and rich in fruits and vegetables can help improve symptoms.
Quitting smoking: Avoiding smoking may help one to manage the condition.
Medication
Anti-amyloid antibody intravenous infusion therapy Such as aducanumab and lacanemab which may remove beta amyloid from brain to reduce cognitive and functional degeneration in people in early stage of Alzheimer’s disease
Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors Such as donepezil (Aricept), galantamine (Raza dyne) or rivastigmine (Exelon) which may improve the way that your body’s cells communicate with one another
Memantine (Namenda)- NMDA Receptor antagonist may also help reduce symptoms and slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease
Prevention of Type 3 Diabetes
Exercising four times per week for 30 minutes per day
Eating foods low in saturated fat, rich in protein, and high in fiber
Monitoring your blood sugar according to a healthcare professional’s recommendations
Taking prescribed medications regularly and on schedule
Monitoring your cholesterol levels
Maintaining a moderate weight
Type 3 Diabetes and it's role implications in Alzheimer's Disease
Given more recent studies continue to indicate evidence linking T3 D with Alzheimer’s disease, this review aims to demonstrate the relationship between T3D and Alzheimer’s disease based on the fact that both the processing of amyloid-β (Aβ) precursor protein toxicity and the clearance of Aβ are attributed to impaired insulin signaling, and that insulin resistance mediates the dysregulation of bioenergetics and progress to Alzheimer’s disease.
Conclusion The link between type 3 diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease suggest that there might be a metabolic connection between insulin resistance and brain function this connection could offer potential avenues for treatment and prevention strategies targeting both condition simultaneously.
