International Live Conference on Psychology and Human Behaviour Date: August 19, 2023 Time: 8 PM Indian Standard Time Location: Online Conference Theme: Exploring the Depths: Unraveling the Intricacies of Human Behavior

Abstract

Description: The presentation covers the main symptoms, possible causes, neurochemical basis and treatment approaches of the psychiatric diagnosis of schizophrenia. Firstly, delusions, hallucinations and thought disorders, which are the main symptoms of schizophrenia, are described; standard diagnostic criteria such as ICD-10 and possible causes are discussed. Then, neurochemical bases such as dopamine hypothesis and glutamate dysfunction are explained. Using structural and functional brain MRI scans of schizophrenia patients, common features are revealed. From a cognitive perspective, common cognitive deficits and social cognitive impairments - problems in areas such as attention, memory, social skills - are discussed. In addition, cognitive models and theories are presented. Finally, pharmacological and psychosocial treatment approaches are discussed. Treatment options such as antipsychotic drugs, cognitive behavioural therapy, family therapy are examined in order to create an effective treatment approach. This presentation aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of schizophrenia, providing an overview from symptoms to treatment. Yaren Doğan is a dedicated individual with a profound passion for biomedical engineering and neuroscience, to which she is ardently committed. Currently in her final year at Ankara University, majoring in Biomedical Engineering, she has embarked on a journey driven by a deep curiosity and admiration for unraveling the intricacies of the human brain.

From comprehending FMRI principles to delving into data analysis and exploring various facets of neuroscientific research, Yaren has gained diverse insights. Her specific interest lies in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders, with a focus on conditions like schizophrenia. Her ultimate goal is to make significant contributions to the understanding and treatment of neurological disorders, thereby making meaningful strides in this captivating realm.

Throughout this journey, Yaren has cultivated exceptional skills in problem-solving, effective communication, and collaborative teamwork. As an engaged member of student organizations and the global IEEE network, she has expanded her knowledge by actively participating in conferences and educational programs.

Yaren holds a Neuroscience Certificate achieved through the successful completion of four distinct neuroscience and neuroimaging courses within the "Neuroscience Series" offered by Johns Hopkins University on Coursera. Currently, she is deeply involved in a project that explores the relationship between EEG and brain lateralization.

Looking towards the future, Yaren is eagerly anticipating the completion of her master's and doctoral studies, with the aim of making valuable contributions to science and humanity. With great excitement, she looks forward to progressing towards a future where she can make a positive impact on both the field of science and humanity as a whole.
