Abstract
The importance of creating awareness on mental disorder including accessible treatment options is very crucial. 1 in 4 people will be affected by mental illness at some point in their lives 14.3% of deaths worldwide, or approximately 8 million deaths each year are attributed to mental disorder. The presentation will provide an understanding of different mental health disorders and the difference between mental health disorder and mental illness. A number of people have negative perception on mental health and why they shouldn’t be associated with such. Most people who are suffering from mental disorder can’t access health care because of stigmatization, victimization, financial constrain, and lack of widely available facilities. The likely connection between physical and mental well-being will be presented. As many as 60% of those who do not understand that mental disorder is a condition that affects mood, thinking and behavior. However almost all humans are driven by these three powerful words and the need to normalize the conversation and seek help is important. In particular this presentation will focus on mental disorders, treatment and how to seek help.
