Abstract

Chronic SDH is one of the most frequent pathologies in neurosurgery. Its etiopathogenesis and adequate treatment remain poorly known despite actual investigation. The origin of CSDH is usually a sub dural hygroma (SDG), although a few cases are caused by acute subdural hematomas (ASDH). Since the ASDH is usually absorbed within a few weeks, only some cases of an acute sub dural hematoma become CSDHs, when there is a sufficient potential subdural space. We report a rare case of a chronic subdural hematoma developed from an acute subdural hematoma treated surgically with a good outcome. Arachnoid cysts are benign congenital intracranial lesion accounting for about 1% of all the intracranial lesions. These lesions are often asymptomatic and have been detected incidentally by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography scan imaging (CT). However, it can sometimes in the child, break and cause intracystic hemorrhage and subdural collection causing neurological deficits that require neurosurgical intervention. We report a case of chronic subdural hematoma secondary to rupture of an asymptomatic temporo-sylvian arachnoids cyst in a 4 year-old child which be surgically treated. We also reviewed the literature to recommend a surgical approach and the outcome of the different surgical approaches as reported. Keywords: Arachnoid cyst, chronic sub dural hematoma, surgery
